Designed and hand-built by your hosts, this spacious and totally unique cabin sits deep in nature, accessed by a private footbridge. Welcome to our most spacious and distinctive cabin—a one-of-a-kind retreat, thoughtfully designed and hand-built by your hosts to blend effortlessly into its natural surroundings.

Tucked away in the forest and accessed by a private footbridge over a gently flowing stream, the cabin’s striking exterior features shou sugi ban—a traditional Japanese technique of charring wood to preserve and protect it. The interior is equally considered, with a calm, minimalist design using natural materials, earthy tones, and an emphasis on texture and simplicity.

The large open-plan living area is framed by dramatic corner windows that bring the outside in—perfect for soaking in the peaceful views of the forest and water. A custom-built oversized sofa invites you to spend slow days lounging by the fire, reading, napping, or simply listening to the sounds of the stream.

There are two private decks—one east-facing, one west-facing—so you can follow the sun throughout the day, whether you're enjoying morning coffee or evening drinks.

The spacious king-size bedroom ensures restful nights, while the stylish bathroom surprises with hot water on demand, a generous walk-in shower, and modern design that belies the cabin’s off-grid nature. Lighting is available at the flick of a switch, and warmth comes from a powerful and efficient woodburner.

The well-equipped kitchenette includes a double gas burner, fridge with ice compartment, and everything you need to cook simple meals—plus tea and coffee for a relaxing start to your stay.

Tucked away in a hidden valley within the North York Moors National Park, our property offers a true escape into nature. As you travel down the private lane, you'll leave the outside world behind, surrounded by woodlands, a babbling stream, and an untouched landscape bursting with wildlife and native wildflowers. Years of rewilding have created a haven for nature, making it the perfect spot to disconnect and recharge.

As an international dark sky reserve, our location offers some of the clearest skies in the world—ideal for stargazing. During the day, explore the beauty of the North York Moors, a place of outstanding natural beauty. The market town of Helmsley is just 5.5 miles away, offering a delightful mix of traditional pubs, fine dining, and independent shops stocked with local produce.

Whether you're seeking tranquility, adventure, or simply a night under the stars, this secluded valley is the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature.

Beck is the second site along our lane, on your right. It's really hidden by trees at this time of year so you will have to spot it! There's a 'Beck" sign showing the location of the path down to the cabin The car park is past the 3 sites, half way along the lane and we live just beyond so please come and find us if you need anything.

We’re tucked away in a peaceful corner of North Yorkshire, so a little bit of planning goes a long way.

Most people join us by car. Parking is situated 30m from the cabin.

By train:

From London, it’s around 2 hrs 10 mins on the mainline to Thirsk. From there, we recommend pre-booking a taxi to the property.

Alternatively, you can take a slightly quicker train (about 1 hr 50) from King’s Cross to York, and hire a car from Enterprise in the station.

Please note:

There’s no public bus service directly to the property, so taxi or car hire is essential if you're not driving.

There is a bus from York to Helmsley, but it's a taxi ride from there (5.5 miles)
