The Lazy T is the perfect sanctuary to switch off, find some solitude, read that book you’ve been wanting to open for a while, forage for food, immerse yourself nature, enjoy evenings of peace and quiet- the hooting of the owls, the crackle of the fire and the babbling brook.

The Lazy T focuses on bringing us back to simple pleasures that, in the right place and company, become so deeply felt.

Tucked away in its own private patch of forest, Brook is a handcrafted, off-grid cabin designed for complete escape. Cross a footbridge over a gently flowing stream and step into a peaceful, purpose-built sanctuary.

Thoughtfully designed and built by your hosts using locally sourced materials, Brook blends seamlessly into its surroundings. No heavy machinery was used—every piece was carried in by hand to protect the forest floor, reflecting a deep respect for nature.

Inside, the space is cozy and light-filled, styled with hygge-inspired touches and natural textures. The centerpiece is a handcrafted king-size bed with a striking headboard made from mountain ash and oak, harvested from the land itself—perfectly placed to wake with the morning light and sounds of the forest.

A compact kitchenette includes a gas double burner and fridge with ice box, ideal for breakfast in bed or dinner by candlelight. The bathroom features a flushing toilet and hot water, while an open-air shower—built around living trees—offers a truly unique experience.

Outside, unwind on the raised deck, gather around the fire pit, and enjoy star-filled skies and the soothing sound of the stream.

Brook is more than a cabin—it’s a rare chance to unplug, slow down, and experience nature with comfort, creativity, and care.

We, Skot and Katy, live on site with our daughter, Ava and very friendly lurcher, Django.

We left London 7 years ago to create a more sustainable life connected with nature. We have put our heart, soul, time and savings into creating this wild getaway. Each site feels so personal to us and we have gradually built it over time. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Far out of the city, down the winding roads of the North Yorks Moors National Park, into a hidden valley and amongst the trees sits The Lazy T. Surround your self in nothing but nature and let the babbling brook carry your cares away.

Stay local and soak up beautiful walks with personalised maps from the door, to Rievaulx Abbey or The Owl at Hawnby. There's also bike hire from Sutton bank and the chocolate box town of Helmsley is 5 miles away. Guided foraging walks are available from the host

We’re tucked away in a peaceful corner of North Yorkshire, so a little bit of planning goes a long way.

Most people join us by car. Parking is situated 30m from the cabin.

By train:

From London, it’s around 2 hrs 10 mins on the mainline to Thirsk. From there, we recommend pre-booking a taxi to the property.

Alternatively, you can take a slightly quicker train (about 1 hr 50) from King’s Cross to York, and hire a car from Enterprise in the station.

Please note:

There’s no public bus service directly to the property, so taxi or car hire is essential if you're not driving.

There is a bus from York to Helmsley, but it's a taxi ride from there (5.5 miles)
